Rejectee Therapy for Tiny Girl Vs. Big Man

  • Thanks so much Matt & Dave. There was definitely a vision in place on where future episodes would go, but I agree 100% that this pilot doesn't really let the audience in on that information. I'll make sure Justin gets this feedback, while simultaneously begging him to keep making shows!

  • Matt Hill says:
Yeah this had a lot going for it.
    -well shot
    -put together well
    -visually compelling
    -great locations
    -excellent acting
In a month with worse pilots it probably would have made it. However, I didn't think the script was that good. It wasn't a bad script, it just could have been better. More cohesive from a story sense, and more and better jokes. I know that's a terrible note, "make it better." But it's all I got. Production-wise this is all the way there, just work a little harder on the script, show it to people, get feedback. Make sure everything is working.

  • I feel like my "franchise" comment was sort of confusing and want to elaborate on it:

We always used to talk about Channel 101 pilots as starting a franchise. A-Team. ER. Sliders. Cheers.

You know what 100 episodes of those shows would look like. A-Team takes on a job, doctors save lives, we slide into another dimension, we watch the antics at this bar. That's the franchise. This is an old school 101 rule, and a lot of shows these days successfully laugh in the face of it, but since Justin is just starting out he should try to build shows that have some sort of franchise. What would 100 episodes of this show be. I have no idea, so it doesn't feel like a show to me. I can understand what 100 episodes of ACTRESS would be, even though it's a very subversive show.

  • This was really well shot and edited. I think you did a sweet job, Josh.

I don't really see how it's a show, though. It's called "Tiny Girl vs. Big Man" but Big Man doesn't show up until 3:15 and then thirty seconds later she kicks him in the balls.

This was not unscreenable. This was cute and fun but not really a show.

If it was just called "Tiny Girl" I MIGHT get it, but the fact that it was called Tiny Girl vs. Big Man and she just goes and meets Big Man and kicks him in the balls makes me feel this is more of a short film and not a Channel 101 show. What would the next episode be? And even if it was just called "Tiny Girl" the story is lacking and I'm not sure what the franchise is.

It was really well directed and shot and edited. I think Justin has skills and ability and I'd love to see him make a show with more dialogue and a clear goal and realization of that goal. Just to see how it feels. It might not be his style, but it'd be worth exploring.

Justin should find his most enthusiastic and charismatic buddies, write characters for them to play, and shoot a show where those characters clearly have a task to accomplish and go after it. Somewhere on the Channel 101 Wiki there is a link to Dan Harmon's 101 show-writing tutorial, which is totally worth looking over.

I'm posting on behalf of the creator (I just shot and cut the thing). This is his first time submitting and first time feeling the bitter sting of 101 panel rejection. All of us involved would love to hear what you think works, doesn't work or any other sage advice from panel members and non-panel members alike. Thanks a million!
