Rejectee Therapy for Feedback for “The Other Testament”

  • Matt Hill says:
Yo, the tablet still had everyone laughing.
There were so many good things about this--
    - the premise is very funny (reminds me of a Simon Rich short story)
    - great production value
    - great acting
But, I think what this needed was more story, we needed to get to that first scene faster and then move on from that first scene faster, to have the story progress. Really everything that happens in this should happen in about a minute.
That's my only note, otherwise I think everything is really solid.

  • I thought this was quite funny and it looked really cinematic. Very "Life of Brian-y."

I think the biggest issue is the time it takes for your show to get off the ground - we just see a guy walking up a hill for a whole minute and thirty seconds. I get that this may be to make the joke work at the end where he complains about the trip back, but as an outside viewer I didn't realize it was a comedy until over 2 minutes in.

If you were to do reshoots I would recommend having some funny thing happen along the way, like the guy steps in goat droppings (I know, stupid joke, just an example), just to make it more obvious what the show is and to keep interest. Otherwise I would cut down the beginning because I think its very misleading. Same with the credits if you want people to pay attention through them.

Other than that, the dialogue was pretty entertaining, and the stone slabs were on point. I'm not religiously literate so some of the jokes went over my head, and I still found it funny.

Pretty fun video man, and I hope you make more in the future. I can definitely see where this could go, whether it be anthology or serialized.

  • The stone tablets were actually super easy to make; it was the old set design process from stuff like “Once Upon A Mattress” and whatnot where we used styrofoam for molded rock. For both slabs and the backup set, it cost like $20 for everything, including a ton of extra materials.

We got big styrofoam sheets at Home Depot and cut them to size (and used the rest for reflectors), melted the words in with acetone, covered in wood glue, and painted. Maybe 2 hours of work, not counting drying.

This was my first submission; looking forward to whatever comes next!

Hey, I’d love to hear some feedback for this; the series was to be an anthology of fractured biblical-style stories, with this one being a take off of The Ten Commandments. It was a lot of fun to make, so we can’t wait to hear what you think!
