Echoing what Mike said.
This was gorgeous, just stunning visually.
But we thought the Box was too similar.
I think story-wise, it was a little weird to have such a long flashback in the middle. All we need is that he did it for a girl, we don't need to see them meeting and her telling him if he was the last man on earth, etc.
It is a really good premise, though. Probably would have been in most other months.
You might want to resubmit, or reshoot and move the story forward. What happens now? A guy blows up the world for a girl and then what?

Kyle, this was pretty great. Camerawork, editing and sound were all spot on. Nice final visual as well.
First, as I've said before, this was the most competitive month all year. We could have easily screened your show and 5 other different pilots and there might not have been a degradation of quality.
Having said that, Last Man bumped against The Box thematically, in our opinion. Single guy trying to figure out what the hell is going on. Locations were vastly different and your tone had more humor, but we felt like screening them both might hurt both shows chances.
There's a large concern with your show in that you're essentially paying of a joke. You've killed everyone to fulfill this girl's offhanded and satirical comment on the conditions that she would date you. So the reveal at the end of the show is a punchline and it puts all the action in the past. So there's a little bit of a groan at the joke, plus a realization that this show will be going back to show us how we got to the climax of your story (blowed up LA). In contrast, The Box had the main character moving forward into an uncertain future. To the panel, that seemed more promising.
I'm mixed about this being on rejectee therapy because this could be a resubmit. You might want to pull the link and think about January. A better idea would be to make a whole new show. That sounds shitty right now, but you've got some really excellent skills right now in storytelling and filmmaking. I'd hate to have you sit around until January to see if LMoE gets in, when you could make something even better.
ABC = Always. Be. Chooting.
If this doesn't help, just remember, I'm not on the panel next month.
