Thanks for chiming in Paul! I made "The Handsome Archaeologist" before I had even heard about Channel 101. It was always set out to be a short premise sketch example piece. I have a crazy list of other subjects Per could cover in later segments. Your suggestions are very funny! And I had thought about Per's off camera's life once I finished editing it. Glad you enjoyed the Wilhem Scream and the fact that Marc Crumpton lived up to the "Handsome" part of the title.

  • Hey Steve,

You did great on the production end. It looked good and the sound was very good. Impressive color grading. I like the wilhelm scream. And your archaeologist is VERY handsome!

Alex is right, though; this works as a sketch, but not quite as a show. You could do this as a series of one-minute sketches and it'd work pretty well.

In fact, I have some pitches for subjects you can cover:

Basic bitches (you find a north face jacket and a pumpkin spice latte)
Goths (you unearth a Hot Topic and find a bunch of stuff)
    Tea partiers (I dunno)

A 101 version of The Handsome Archaeologist might have 30 seconds of "The Handsome Archaeologist" show followed by 4:30 of Per Wickenburg having a conflict with another archaeologist or the Ugly Archaeologist Society or whatever.

Check out Honkers, which is pretty similar to what I described.

You definitely have the chops to make a Channel 101 show, but I think it's just a matter of not settling for non-show ideas. I have notebooks full of 101 ideas that I thought were funny, then realized were not shows. It's heartbreaking. And now I have a show that's barely a show.

  • That's a very good point.

Thanks for the feedback. The show takes place 300 years in the future, so I guess the hipster jokes are 310 years too late.

  • Hey Steve,

Thanks so much for submitting. I think the general feeling from the panel was that this felt more like a sketch than a show. Having a story always helps make something feel like a show. Not that you can't do these type of host talking to camera shows (I mean check out King Of YouTube).

Another issue is I think hipster jokes are probably a decade too late.

But the show looks and sounds good and I really hope you keep submitting!
