King of YouTube - Episode
Venture back to where Pauly Tamale's ORIGINAL hacks first took place... Michigan!
    • I live in S. Texas. I am very new to Channel 101, but I just have to say I love it!!! Congrats to ALL! This is going to be fun!

    • I'm an obsessed fan of this - also Pauly Tamale's criminally under-appreciated actual YouTube channel.
Not sure what the Channel101 content ownership rules are, but would love it if these eps got posted there to people who follow Pauly for YouTuber parody laughs but don't know about the uh, darker side.

    • Damn, Internet is so tiring. You guys...

Huge fan of the show, really.
      Need more episodes.

And hacks and tips for teens, tips for tweens.

    • I agree with Paul. King of Comedy really is better than Taxi Driver.

    • Dans giving out jobs??? Where's mine???

    • Travis is right you guys. We're the gatekeepers of 101 and it's time for us to step aside to let anonymous trolls dictate the content of 101. These needlessly harsh drive-by comments have truly shown us that we wield incredible power by putting on this free, volunteer-run show once a month. We're basically a mini-studio system run amok, ruling the short-form comedy community with an iron fist. See? I can be sarcastic too. It's pretty easy, unlike making a 101 pilot. So put up or shut up, and maybe spend your time writing your next 101 submission instead of trying to tear down other peoples' work on the internet.

    • But I think this thread should've ended after Paul pointed out that 248 people voted for his show. I've been coming to the screenings for years. I don't know the majority of the people that are coming and voting. And even if you bring people to vote for you, they still have to vote for four other shows. I'm not always happy with the results every month but it's a fair system. If it was rigged, I would've used my "in the know" powers to bring back Murderers starring Paul Isakson for episode 3.

    • Shockingly, people that screen their stuff more often get better at knowing how to make stuff that screens well. That's kind of the whole point of getting involved in Channel 101.

I think the argument that 101 is too inside is just a defense mechanism from people that would rather complain than make stuff. I've been on a bunch of panels and to even more screenings -- nothing excites us "in the know" people more than new creators. Look at the prime time line up now. Two of the shows have creators who are in prime time for the first time and Cullan and Chris are relatively new.

At some point, all of us "in the know" people weren't "in the know". I didn't really have a problem being welcomed into the community. I'm sure most "in the know" people would say something similar.

Were you at the screening? This last one was great. Everything played well, especially what got voted back.

Are you upset that your show got rejected or didn't screen well? Keep making stuff. And don't post mean stuff anonymously. Feel free to criticize but just use your name.

    • Right, which certainly explains why a good chunk of the top shows that get voted back every month happen to be made by the same people again and again. You're all creative geniuses all the time and the rest of us are peasants. Got it.

And it also explains why this is the first time this website/channel has been called out for playing favorites and is in no way a consistent accusation that's been thrown its way for years.

This place is like a microcosm of Hollywood; those in the know get the top spots, the attention, and, occasionally, thanks to the Dan Harmon connection, the nice paying gigs on real shows. It's all kept in family, and those not worthy, which is most, are kept at arms length.

Or so it seems. I'm just a raving lunatic after all.

    • nah, dog. "people in the know" get as many votes as people not in "the know," which is to say one vote, each. come to the screening & you get a vote, too! i promise it would be more fun for you than asking people to stop making their shows after they are voted back. unless you were there and that name is a clever mask! man, what if we even talked to each other? (doesn't seem likely, i can be very shy and you are a fictional character).

i digress. anyway, it's pretty simple - if a show entertains the audience people vote for it. this is a very entertaining show & 248 of us liked this episode enough to vote for another one. that is as much leeway and opportunity as any show here is given, so i dunno what you have to cry foul about. please don't try to assassinate a presidential candidate about it or anything.

    • Nothing personal, man. You seem like a nice fella and you're a charming enough personality on screen. And you're trying something new and creative here, which is great. I just don't think your show would have been given as much leeway and opportunity, or allowed to continue as long as it has, were you not such a significant member of this channel. It's a show full of Channel 101 inside jokes, from and for people in the know, who, coincidentally, happen to do most of the voting every month.

But, again, nothing personal. You're talented and hard working, and I respect that.

    • Whoa! The homicidal racist character from Taxi Driver commented on my video! Awesome!

The hardest part of making this episode was convincing 248 of my cronies to come to the screening and vote for me. Ugh! Too much work!

Unrelated, but King of Comedy is better than Taxi Driver. I hope Rupert Pupkin comments next!

    • This show's kind of wearing out its welcome, not that it was ever very good to begin with, but after 8 episodes? Come on now. The only reason it's lasted this long is the usual Channel 101 tendency to favor their little crew of friends over new folk. Time to put it to rest and give someone new a shot, don't you think?
